2020 Vintage updates

Update #1 - 8/02/2020

The season started with some hot weather in November and December which resulted in variable fruit set and a lot of small berries. Cooler temperatures since mid January and the arrival of some much needed rain has freshened the vines and soil. The grapes are ripening steadily now and will be of exceptional quality if temperatures remain the same. Birds are on the move so nets are out to help bring the fruit home safely.

It will be a low yielding, high quality vintage where vignerons and makers will navigate potential smoke taint on top of the usual threats to quality produce. The art in agriculture!

Update #2 - 10/03/2020

Vintage is now in full swing across the Adelaide Hills. Over the past few weeks, we have been busy picking and pressing Pinot and Chardonnay varieties for our sparkling wines. The season has produced some of the highest acid levels we’ve ever seen with ripe flavours, hinting at a stellar sparkling year.

Last Wednesday we picked our home block Pinot. The flavours are amazing, with incredible length and structure. It’s early days, however we are pretty confident a second release of our exclusive Longwood Pinot is on the cards.

General yields for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris are slightly down. Evidence of smoke taint has been found in some vineyards but the good news is that there is still quality fruit out there throughout the region which hasn’t been affected.
